So. Gau jal. Cow water. Made mainly of cow urine, mixed with a few medicinal and ayurvedic herbs. It’s thought to be purifying. Some politicians are promoting cow urine as a cure for liver disease, obesity, and cancer.
Some people are talking about a cow urine revolution: “It will be a revolution of sorts. The acceptance of cow urine as a potent medicine is increasing day by day and once it comes as a cold drink, its demand will definitely increase,” Prakash claimed.
Here’s the Times Online UK.

This new procedure is supposed to make it easier for people to donate kidneys: “Removing the kidney through a natural opening should hasten the patient’s recovery and provide a better cosmetic result,” Montgomery said.
He told CNN on Tuesday, “We want to make it easier for people to donate, to have less impact on their lives, [be] in hospital a shorter amount of time and get back to their lives quicker.”
A friend of the family died too early from liver failure so I hope this does make it easier to donate. I’m reminded of this blog entry where they mention medical tourism - a Canadian company was organizing trips to India and Pakistan where living donors would actually sell kidneys to the relatively wealthy foreigner in need. The total cost of the trip was around $32,000.
